Risk of sleeping in makeup!

We all know sleeping in makeup is bad, but how bad is it really?
Sleeping with makeup is something that happens to all of us, but not necessarily a wise thing to make a habit of. The more you sleep while wearing your makeup, the greater damage there is to your skin.

If you don't cleanse your face, dirt and dead skin cells are not removed. They stay on the skin, clogging pores and leading to chronic inflammation in the form of pimples. Dirt and makeup trapped against your skin cause environmentally-induced oxidative damage. This leads to a breakdown of the skin barriers and prematurely ages your face. For those with oily skin, like acne patients, sleeping in makeup could worsen their skin conditions. Makeup often contains irritants like dyes and perfumes that, when left on the skin for long periods of time, can cause inflammation and rashes.

Neglecting to remove eye makeup can cause dryness, redness, irritation and infection. Not removing foundation can lead to majorly clogged pores and pimples. Leftover makeup residue can inhibit the absorption of skin-care products by creating a barrier that prevents beneficial ingredients from penetrating the skin's surface. That means tour moisturizer won't be able to nourish your patched skin! Sleeping in mascara and thick liner may result in the clogging of the tiny hair follicles and oil glands on your eyelids. When these areas become clogged, small bumps called styes or hordeolums can form. Left-on mascara can cause eyelashes to become brittle, break easily and even shed faster. Sleeping with any type of lipstick will result in dryness and chapping.

BOTTOM LINE: Now that you are aware of exactly how bad sleeping in makeup is, make a habit of removing your makeup before crawling into bed and protect your skin from further damage.
