Macron to create a different picture than Trudeau

After the disappointing visit of Justin Trudeau, now its Macron’s turn to impress India. The French President Emmanuel Macron will meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday. Modi is expected to replace his cold greetings for Trudeau to warm ones for Macron. Especially after the confirmation of a French source who said Modi and Macron had "formed a close relationship” in the first nine months of his power.

Though Macron is set to go to the Taj Mahal ’s almost obligatory visit, we can expect that he won’t be walking on the fallacious path of Tredeau and will be donning a more conservative attire.  Both Trudeau and Macron may have the same kind of political views or youthful look but Macron is here to make a different kind impression on his hosts than Trudeau did a few days before. After the visit of the monument of love on Sunday, the President will land in the holy city of Varanasi.

On Sunday Macron will attend a solar summit, which will showcase India’s and France’s joint commitment to fighting climate issues. Climate is not the only agenda on Macron’s list, there is nuclear power sale too.

In September 2016 India had decided to buy 36 French-made Rafale fighter jets, the number is very lower than 126 which was discussed but both France and the manufacturer Dassault Aviation hopes for future sales. The obstacles which have led to a long drawn delay in buying nuclear reactors will also be discussed.  The President will also be singing praises for the Airbus helicopters and Scorpene submarines in a country which buys most of its defense equipment from outside. Another important thing which will be discussed is the Indian Navy using French bases in the Southern Indian Ocean.

France like rest of Europe considers India an ideal diplomatic partner and a potential competition for China in Asia. In the hopes of gaining the partnership, many countries have used many tricks on the book and several visits to New Delhi.

Macron is preparing to dazzle India and earn some of the very important diplomatic ties.
