In Afghanistan in the Sar-e-Pul province, a woman was beheaded for the sole reason of stepping out of her house, without a male guardian. The woman’s husband was in Iran and they had no children.
The woman was 30 years old and she was killed and then decapitated. The members of the Taliban did this to her for the fact that she went out alone on a Monday Evening.

This happened in Lati, a small village in the province. It is under Taliban control and the Islamist group does not allow women from leaving their homes unless they go out with a close male relative.

The Provincial Governor’s spokesperson Zabiullah Amani said that the woman was stabbed and then killed by the AK-47, which is linked to the Taliban.
The Taliban are not shy of using extreme force against those who transgress their radical interpretation of Islam. They denied any involvement in the incident.

And so far, no one has been arrested.

One of the main objectives of the international community in Afghanistan, after the collapse of the Taliban regime in 2001, was to restore the fundamental rights of women. This seems unlikely with any advances towards their education and work rights being a tough challenge. Moreover, in the recent years, there has been a rise in violence and discrimination against the female population.

Let us just hope we do not hear any more shocking cases.
