Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University ia an affiliating and teaching University , established by Government of NCT of Delhi under the provisions of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University Act, 1998 read with its Amendment in 1999.It is recognised by University Grants Commission, India under section 12B of UGC Act.
Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University has been accredited "A Grade" by NAAC during Feb- March 2007. The University has been awarded the ISO 9001:2000 Certification by Standardization, Testing and Quality Certification Directorate, Department of Information Technology, Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Government of India, for a period of three years . Functioning of the University commenced with the joining of Prof. K.K. Aggarwal as Vice-Chancellor in December, 1998. An emminent scholar and innovative person in Prof. K.K. Aggarwal, the first Vice Chancellor of the University, proposes to develop the University into a centre of excellence comparable to the best in the world. The University is currently functioning from its Campus spread over an area of 16 acres at Kashmere Gate, Delhi. The University has taken possession of land measuring 60 acres at Dwarka (West Delhi) for setting up a State-of-Art Campus of the University with ultra-modern facilities. It has also been decided to establish another Campus of the University in East Delhi and land measuring 19 acres has been taken over opposite Surajmal Vihar, Karkardooma for this purpose.
