M
any a times I have been asked by the students that how to crack the written exam so as to peep into the nutshell. Cracking the written exam is a child's play. The only thing required is the 3 D's, proper studying strategy and most importantly what is to be done on the day of the examination and in the examination hall.

Don't think that without doing anything, cracking the written exam is a child's play or in other words i can say that it is child's play but with teething troubles. The above mentioned three key points will guide you towards the destination and finally you will realize that success is lying in your hands and you have been able to put one more feather to your cap.

Now we will discuss the above mentioned key points in detail in order to give you a clear picture:-

STUDYING STRATEGY

Once you have acquired the 3-D's, now its time to understand that how to study and prepare for the exam so as to take the ball in your court. Six hrs of concentrated and productive study for 1 month will take you par to the boundary and definitely you will excel in the written exam. Now the point is, how to utilize those 6 hrs. Before this there is one note for you:-

Note: Though I will be putting some sample questions to give you an idea of the standard of the examination. But it is recommended that each one of you should buy a (Arihant Pathfinder for NDA & NA Entrance Examination by Dr. P. K. Mittal, O. P. Bisht & Neetika Goyal). For those who really want to excel in the written exam and want to score good so as to top the merit list then this the perfect choice. You can also buy it here.

Taking into consideration the pattern of the paper, we will divide the 6 hrs of study in such a manner so as to utilize it productively and efficiently. The written paper is divided into two parts, the first part is Mathematics that is of 300 marks and is of 2 hrs & 30 min and the second part is GAT (General Ability Test) that is of 600 marks and is of 2 hrs & 30 min. Following are some points which will clear your every doubt: -

  • As I have already told you that there is one separate paper of mathematics which constitutes 300 marks, so this means that studying mathematics is very important for you people and majorly it will going to account for your rank in the merit list. You must spend 2-3 hrs daily on mathematics. The syllabus for mathematics is the complete syllabus of 11th and 12th. Now the point comes that from where you should start. Before this I want to urge each one of you to run for quality and not for quantity. According to me you should not rush to do 100% course instead of this you should only do 70-80% course but that should be done in such a way so as to have 100% accuracy with the given time constraint. I will suggest you do the following chapters in the sequence as they are mentioned, starting with the first chapter because these chapters have a good weightage and we can easily find their solutions in the paper by applying simple shortcuts. The list of the chapters is as follow: -
  1. Sets and Relation
  2. Matrices and Determinant
  3. Complex Number
  4. Coordinate Geometry
  5. Differentiation
  6. Integration
  7. Trigonometry
  8. Vectors & Planes
  9. AP & GP

NOTE:-

I always suggest students not to spend too much time on probability and statistics because these chapters are bit tricky and time consuming. More over it is advisable that if you find any question on statistics in the paper whose solution is known to you, still i will recommend you to move further because they consume lot of time for solving.

  • After mathematics the next subject on which you need to concentrate is English which comes under GAT and constitutes 200 marks. Not only for the written exam but during the SSB and in all walks of life English will going to benefit you a lot. So you must study English daily for 1 hour. For scoring good marks in english in the written exam, make a habit of doing 5 antonyms and 5 synonyms daily.
  • Somebody has rightly said that a person learns from his/her own mistakes. So here Iam going to tell you a major mistake committed by me due to which I have suffered a lot and the same mistake you people should not repeat. Neglecting the current affairs(CA) leads to problematic situation because current affairs is something which is required in every field of career and life. Having no knowledge of current affairs leaves an atrocious impact on the person by stamping a negative impression on his/her mind that a person is not socially well connected and does'nt know that what is going in an around the world. During the SSB or if you go for any interview the interviewing officer will surely ask you that how you keep yourself updated that what is being going on in and around the world, at this very moment of time one realizes that he/she has done a blunder mistake and now you will have to pay for that. The best way of studying current affairs is to study on daily basis. Make a habit of spending your 30 min daily on current affairs. For the written exam you should be aware of everything which was there in the picture for 3-4 months before the date of examination. If you are through with this then you are through with the current affair part, in context with written examination. But remember one thing, this does not mean that once you are through with the current affair of written exam you should put a constraint on your knowledge of current affairs by stop spending time on it. Why iam stressing so much on CA and repeatedly telling you to make it a life time habit?? The answer to this question is that, later on you will realize that how beneficial it is because if you go for G.D's (Group Discussions) you need a good command on CA. Moreover in SSB and other competitive exams such as IAS current affair is mandatory for qualifying such highly competitive exams.
  • Now we are left over with physics, chemistry, biology, history, civics and geography. If you are from the science background then the science part which constitutes physics, chemistry and biology, is not a big deal for you and you can easily get through with it by devoting 30-60 mins daily. For the students without the science background will need to devote approximately 2 hrs daily and one thing is also there that they should not be afraid of studying science due to a feeling that it is tough because the science related questions which are there in the paper are very easy and basic.
  • At last, you need to spend total one hour on civics, geography and history daily. For ex: If I start my preparation from today then i will give 1 hr for civics. Tomorrow i will give 1 hr for geography and day after tomorrow 1 hr for history. In this way I will go on.
